JMCE : a message processing and control environment

Abstract

Messages bombard internet users and organisations with a web presence every day, amongst which the user or organisation may find useful information and also useless spam which cannot be recognized by simple filtering. In this report we describe the task of creating an architecture whereby a generic form of messages can be processed and content based control and reactions effected. Thus we have designed and implemented a basic generic environment in Java which is targeted towards expert users and developers alike such that they are able to produce modules, which can later be separately and concurrently deployed. The messages accepted by the deployed application from its inputs are in XML format structurally restricted only for a message language and font specification. The system processes tag text content within these messages using processing components which are parameterized by the user through visual components. The current version implements statistical categorization and simple template-driven extraction processing components which are combined under user defined cases and which trigger user defined outputs. Output is also in XML format with a predefined structure but with partially parameterized tags for flexibility. Here we describe the technologies involved, the system architecture together with an initial evaluation of the system and future work to be performed.
