Abstract: | The main aim of our project is to find an adequate solution against the hazards to machinery and employees caused by grit blasting of hulls at Malta Drydocks. This dissertation, which is the result of research and work carried out over a period of six months, is an attempt to solve the problem. The opening chapters contain an introduction to the subject and investigate various aspects of the problem. This enabled us to consider a number of possible solutions. As emphasis was placed on a practical solution, a blasting/recovery head was manufactured. This is treated in the second part of our work. Our information has been sourced from firms which manufacture abrasive grit blasting equipment. Nevertheless, we are indebted to Malta Drydocks staff for the help rendered. As a result of our study, we are certain that we have made a valid contribution towards the solution of grit blasting at Malta Drydocks. |
