Abstract: The. concept of saving energy in todays' world has become a very sensitive and important subject matter. A joint world-wide effort, between many European and American governments have been trying to produce plans and enormous projects to try and enable 'man' to make efficient use of the energy produced from the earth’s natural resources. The idea of an Energy Controller, discussed in this project, falls in the category of allowing a person to make efficient use of the energy supplied to him, in within his own home, company or office apartments. On a grand scale, an Energy Controller may be utilized by governmental departments worldwide, hospitals, reverse osmosis plants, skyscraper office buildings, hotels, department stores and any other large complex. The bigger the complex building the more feasible and needed would an Energy controller be. In the project discussed hereunder, temperature control of four rooms and lighting control in within eight rooms was designed. Lighting control was obtained by switching lights on or off in certain rooms at certain times of the day. This was obtained by making use of the real-time-clock of the computer. Temperature control was obtained by reading the temperature in within a room through means of temperature sensors (thermistors). This type of control was obtained through an interfacing circuit, an energy controller circuit and a Software program sending adequate signals to the hardware circuits at the right time and at the right temperature level.
