Abstract: Real-time sound processing has always required flexible architectures to serve the needs of sound engineers in producing pleasant high-quality audio. Multichannel sound has revolutionised music and audio, making them richer and more amusing to the listener. ViTAP, a Visual Toolkit for Audio Processing, is a powerful framework for developing sound components in a multichannel environment, providing a vast range of fine components that can be combined together to discover interesting sound effects. ViTAP employs multithreading and object-oriented techniques for representing sound objects and enabling high-performance real-time audio to be engineered.
