Abstract: The basic aim of this project is to design, build and test a three phase, fully controlled, A.C. Thyristor Voltage Regulator using phase angle control techniques. The A.C. voltage regulator is intended to provide:- (1) variable voltage fixed frequency speed control, (2) ramp soft-starting, and (3) reversal of rotation of a slip-ring induction motor. The designed voltage controller would be quite suitable for demonstration purposes, since the various output voltage/current waveforms for different modes of operation of the voltage regulator (i.e. Mode 2/3, Mode 2/2 and Mode 0/2), under various load conditions (star-connected resistive loads or inductive-resistive loads), could be clearly analysed and compared with theoretical results.
