dc.description.abstract | My main objectives are to analyse the shortcomings and dangerous implications of military, humanitarian intervention, and explore new approaches to address the new complex security challenges to the Mediterranean. The definition of security has evolved to embrace socio-economic and environmental aspects and international organizations are better equipped to contend with security challenges. The EU approach to the Mediterranean regions challenges is both Kantonian and Grotian, and the Barcelona Process reflects the EU belief that democratic institutions and fundamental rights and freedoms would foster economic and social freedoms and turn the Mediterranean into a basin of stability peace and prosperity. However, the Euro Mediterranean Partnership is being seriously impeded by the Arab Israeli conflict and other Barcelona Process shortcomings. | en_GB |
