Abstract: While the University of Malta is not a profit driven organisation, this does not exonerate it from the need for strategic thinking. There are changes that are likely to keep demand for tertiary education buoyant like globalisation, competition from other tertiary institutions and local arrangements of foreign institutions, providing training for academics, and advance of technology. The article emphasizes the importance of establishing the competitive strategic position of the university which might be envisage in five, 10 years time.
