Static compensator using thyristor control

Abstract

This dissertation studies a possible scheme for improving the power factor of linear or non-linear loads. The methods used for measuring a system's power factor and how this is adjusted accordingly such that a set and predetermined value of power factor in the system is maintained at all times, are outlined in a certain degree of detail. The results show how the proposed scheme can achieve both accurate measurement as well as adjustment of the system power factor.
