Abstract: The normal reaction of a layman to any corrosion problem is to coat the corroded element. This is an understandable reaction, however when dealing with several kilometers of buried pipeline, due to the environmental conditions that the structure has to withstand, protective coatings become less effective. Other techniques are used to protect these structures. One of the most popular and effective methods in use is Cathodic Protection. This technique will be discussed in details in the chapters that follow.
