Abstract: The title of this paper intentionally echoes that of a classic in the field of archaeology, namely Archaeology from the Earth by Sir Mortimer Wheeler. In this book, Wheeler explains the techniques of field archaeology showing how we can reliably extract information from the ground that is needed to reconstruct the overall story of our ancestors, including that which took place during that very long stretch of time predating the invention of writing c.3500 B.C. In this context, it is important to recall that archaeology can indeed be viewed as a 'specialized form of history' and that most probably it is such an intrinsic link between archaeology and history as the two main sources of the story of mankind that had led to publications such as that entitled History from the Earth.
