| Abstract: | This long assignment seeks to deal with the Young Adult world, in relation to fiction books which can be found in a school library. In the first part of this study, focus will be on distinguishing how young adults differ psychologically and socially from other age groups. Moreover, the study will look at how young adult books developed and how reading can play an important role in the holistic development of young adults. The school library, being the hub of the learning process at school, should provide material which aids this process in the formative years of young adults. In this respect, this study will analyse books that one finds in the young adult section of a school library. Theory will be analysed regarding young adult fiction and finally propose guidelines and suggestions for collection development of school libraries, so as to provide fiction material that will reflect the educational mission of every school. |
