Abstract: The greatest hurdle in shattering the ceiling in having women following careers in non-traditional roles is surely the culture that we as Europeans and Maltese in particular profess. I have quoted in my essay from a research carried out last year by A. Abela (Values of Men and Women in the Maltese Islands) that countries like Russia and Bulgaria, women outnumber men in the labour force totals. Although various positive strides have been made as regards to equal job opportunities, both by regional and local Institutions, we are still a long way ahead to attain such objective. The constraints are numerous, including creating a sound environment for an eventual culture change, education and training in non-traditional career skills from early stages. To reach the objective of having all avenues women choosing non traditional career paths strategic plans should be discussed and effected in the international, regional and local constituted bodies in particular.
