Abstract: The purpose of this long essay is to propose a role for a social worker to work with families of children undergoing a home programme with The Institute for Brain Injured Children in Malta. To-date no such role exists. After a brief introduction in Chapter one, Chapter two to four speak about how The Institute for Brain Injured Children in Malta actually evolved, an overall I view of what it offers, information about the brain in this context and what the programme consists of. In Chapter five, I went on to speak about the impact of children with disabilities within their families and about the relationships between parents and siblings. Following in Chapter six, is a brief account regarding social work in the area of developmental disabilities. Chapter seven and eight concern interviews with six families whose children are undergoing the Institute' s home programme and seven social workers with experience in the field of disabilities, results which emerged from these interviews and my proposals and recommendations for a social work role. A brief conclusion follows in Chapter nine.
