Abstract: Relapse and social workers' role in trying to prevent it are two of the main themes in this long essay resulting in an Individualised Relapse Prevention Care Plan. The Literature Review covers information on drugs, addiction, recovery and relapse. A review has been carried on relapse prevention methods at the Substance Abuse Therapeutic Unit, examining their apparent effectiveness. Coping skill and the social workers' method and approaches in dealing with clients have been addressed. Five participants who are either attending the program or used to be in the program were interviewed to examine possible relapse cues. Two questionnaires were used to enhance this study and learn more about the relapse cues. In the last ten years it has been found that relapse prevention is an important part of the recovery process.
