Abstract: This essay is a study of the current procedures in of detection and intervention in Malta's main general hospital (St Luke's Hospital). The study compare and contrast the methods used in Malta to international methods of detection and intervention of child abuse in a general hospital setting. The aim of the study was to find recommendations that might facilitate child abuse detection and intervention in a general hospital setting. The findings suggested that although the hospital staff is aware of child abuse they do not have enough skills to detect and intervene adequately. The several recommendations given were structured during the analysis of the study. Most of the recommendations are inter linked and are practised in foreign countries.
