Abstract: The main focus of my study or this long essay is social work within the child protection system. Through literature review, particularly in regards to UK and USA, the different types of abuse, their causes and their effects on the child and family were briefly included in the initial part of the essay. Other interventive measures available in the above mentioned countries were mentioned, before coming to a more general view of the social workers' roles within the field. The social worl~ procedures were only mentioned in general, as I tried to get the focus on their work in Malta by the use of questionnaires . Great emphasis was also made on the participation of various professionals in the field. Before concluding on the subject, recommendations for future references or studies in the field were included, since my world was very general, leaving enough space for the other focused work.
