Abstract: Parental Leave has been developed to help employees come to terms with their family obligations and enable them to maintain their profession, while concurrently carrying out their responsibilities at home. This study seeks to give a clear indication of the situation here in Malta with regards to Parental Leave, and on its effect on fathers, mothers and employers alike. Chapter 1 starts off by setting out the main provisions of Parental Leave giving a brief account of the legalistic framework of such entitlement. Chapter 2 explains further how in reality this leave is implemented, and the major goals that may be achieved by putting this entitlement into practice. Chapter 3 then focuses mainly on the methodology used in carrying out a specific study where the results, statistical data, and the respondents' opinions obtained are explained in further detail in Chapter 4. Finally, Chapter 5 concludes by discussing the arguments brought up throughout this research including some final recommendations.
