Abstract: This is a study of the administrative issues associated with Malta's preparation for accession to the European Union (EU). Malta's relationship with the EU had administrative implications from as far back as 1970 when the Association Agreement was signed. Following the submission of Malta's application to join the EU there was a drive within the Maltese administration to try to reinforce itself for the foreseen increased tasks arising from negotiation for membership in the EU. This study identifies the policies as well as the reforms of a legislative, regulatory and administrative nature with a view to modernise the Maltese economy and prepare its integration within that of the European Union.
