Abstract: This study is aimed towards identifying the importance of health and safety issues at the place of work. To reach this objective, it was imperative to study a number of collective agreements and identify in detail how health and safety issues are bargained. Additionally, the study focused on 400 employees to identify how they perceive health and safety issues at their place of work. In doing so one could then conclude whether employees give more importance to financial incentives such as allowances rather than ensuring management's commitment towards a safe working environment. In this regard, the study also highlighted the main differences that exist between workshop and clerical employees. In completion of this study, a series of working sessions were held with a number of Union Officials and Health and Safety Officers representing different organisations.
