Abstract: Marriage and the Family forming the two pillars of society are being undermined by the licentious and unscrupulous modern society. No one could stand and bear at such a situation without trying to restore the good moral values expected from a Christian family back to society. This dissertation carries out a survey of the institution of Marriage by God from the beginning of time, through to its establishment as a Sacrament by Jesus Christ. The study is set against the background of St. Paul's Teachings, who contrary to popular belief was a strong advocate of Marriage and the Family, and from what we will see has much to tell on the subject, in spite of difficulties, which he also encountered and solved. The teachings of the Magisterium of the Church and the documents of the popes on the subject down to our times, are also outlined. The study also provides some reflections of how this state of affairs exists and offers some remedies. The aim of the study is to highlight the proper guidelines regarding marriage as instituted by God and makes one aware of the path one has to follow to benefit from the fruits of this Sacred Institution while emphasising that what God has decreed, no one has the right to alter.
