Abstract: The first part of this study is a literature review about housework and housewife. The essay continues with a study about women's perceptions of housework and of themselves as housewives carried out with fifteen women in full-time homemaking. The role of housewife is identified as a feminine role. Gender inequality and sexual division of labour persists in marriages wherein the women are full-time housewives.
