Call for papers

Following the success of the first and second editions of the International Conference on Maltese Linguistics, held in Bremen and organised by the International Maltese Linguistics Association (Għaqda Internazzjonali tal-Lingwistika Maltija), we invite submissions of extended abstracts for the third edition, to be held on April 8-10, 2011. This third edition is organised by the University of Malta and the Għaqda Internazzjonali tal-Lingwistika Maltija. The conference will be held in Valletta, Malta.

The International Conference on Maltese Linguistics is a forum for researchers working on Maltese from a variety of perspectives, including typological, theoretical, computational and psycholinguistic approaches. We invite abstracts for oral and poster presentations on all topics related to Maltese linguistics, as well as papers focusing on Maltese in relation to other languages. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Historical approaches to Maltese and related languages
  • Language contact
  • Computational approaches to Maltese and Semitic languages
  • Typological perspectives on Maltese and related languages
  • Language acquisition in the Maltese context
  • Variation and dialectology in the Maltese context
  • Lexicography
  • Semantics
  • Pragmatics
  • Morphology
  • Syntax
  • Phonetics and Phonology
  • Maltese in the European context

Submission information

Abstracts for oral presentations should not exceed 500 words; those for poster presentations are limited to 300 words. Abstracts will be reviewed by an international programme committee. Reviewing will be double blind; therefore, abstracts should be anonymous. Submissions in the following formats are accepted:

  • plain text (txt)
  • MS Word (doc or docx)
  • Open Office (odt)
  • Portable Document Format (pdf)

Submissions should be made electronically via the Linguist Lists EasyAbstracts system. Online submission  is now open. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

Submission deadline

Submissions will be accepted from August 15 to December 31, 2010.


All abstracts will be reviewed by at least two reviewers from our Programme Committee. Authors will be notified of acceptance in good time.
