Marie Alexander

Marie Alexander specializes in First Language Acquisition, Sign Linguistics and General Phonetics as well as in the Phonetics of Maltese. She leads the Maltese Sign Language project, currently engaged in compiling a dictionary of Maltese Sign Language. She is co-author with Albert Borg of a book on Maltese in the Lingua Series published by Routledge (1997) and editor of the Maltese Sign Language Dictionary (Volumes I and II).

Marie works in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the National Association of the Hearing-Impaired in facilitating interpreting services for deaf children and young people in educational institutions and coordinates the course on deaf education for students from the Faculty of Education. She represents the University on the National Commission for Disabled Persons and is a member on the University Committee for Students with Special Needs.

Marie Alexander occupied the post of Director of the Institute until September 2010.
