DESCRIPTION The study-unit aims to develop student's skills andunderstanding of professional practice in art, applied art and design. Through engaging with practitioners, students will consider aspects key to art and design practice such as legislation, health and safety, ethical working methods and current thinking on ecology and sustainability. They will also consider broader areas, including communication skills and time management, and how these issues relate to professional working practice.

Study-unit Aims:

- Explore the various connections between artistic practice and the industry;
- Present successful test-cases by key Cultural/artistic players;
- Provide the opportunity to students to direct their own art and design production to real markets through informed knowledge.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Participate in contemporary debates and practicesin art, design and contemporary culture and to examine significant examples of the creative industries and professional practice;
- Debate and investigate the contemporary strategies and tools used by artists and designers to disseminate their practice to contemporary audiences.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Develop employability skills in presentation, documentation, analysis, criticism and contextual practices;
- Develop a Case Study or Placement in a professional context.
