Paradigms of sensuality in the Mediterranean

Over the last twenty years our condition as embodied social beings has emerged as a central focus of research. Researchers in this group have as their central focus of research the body both as a focal of point of discursive regimes of control and regulation through paradigms of health as well as the phenomenological ground from which we experience our social worlds.

The Mediterranean has in turn often been re-created as a paradise of primordial health where the ‘Mediterranean Diet’ is often held out in contemporary discourse as a paradigm of healthy living while the Mediterranean has been singled out as a region with a rate of obesity. The duality of the discourse reflects the often ambivalent role that the Mediterranean body has played in the understanding of the region. Researchers in this group develop an interdisciplinary exploration of paradigms of embodiment in the Mediterranean.
