Molecular Diagnostics: targeted therapeutics for better quality of life  (MOLPAT)

Dr Godfrey Grech (Lecturer, Department of Pathology) is coordinating the Molecular Therapeutics Group as part of the Molecular Diagnostics arm of Mater Dei Hospital, with the specific objectives:

1.  to establish a definitive diagnosis based on unique molecular alterations in specific tumour types

2.  to render prognostic information of clinical relevance, through the assessment of molecular predictors of outcome

3.  to assist in the selection of personalised targeted treatment regimes, saving unnecessary drug toxicity and decreasing morbidity.

Targeting Neurodegenerative Disorders

Dr Charles Scerri (lecturer) represents the Department of Pathology as a partner in a Nationally funded project, entitled Identification of neuroprotectants from terrestial and marine plant extracts in neurodegenerative disorders of the amyloid type [acronym: ‘neuroamyloid’].
