The third steering committee meeting of the PANACEA project, held in Malta last month, was inaugurated by Pro-Rector Prof. Richard Muscat. During the meeting the road-map for the final implementation of the project framework was discussed. This two-year project is set to run till April 2013. The project’s main objective is that of promoting the six participating Marine Protected Areas (MPA's), including Rdum Majjiesa and Dwejra, through the development of environmental education centres, one of which will be based in Dwejra, Gozo.

The PANACEA project is funded under the Italia-Malta 2007-2013 Operational Programme I and includes five partners, of which one is the IOI-MOC based at the University of Malta. Dr Alan Deidun and other members of staff from the IOI-MOC are responsible for the general administration of the project. To date, the IOI-MOC has been responsible for developing the two PANACEA MPA documentaries, the chapters on Dwejra and Rdum Majjiesa MPA's within a manual destined for the public, the text of the interpretation panels to be fitted at the Dwejra Visitors Centre and the PANACEA project website.
