UM academics on an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training at OsloMet University, Norway

Two University of Malta academics, Dr Josephine Deguara and Dr Tania Muscat, senior lecturers within the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, recently participated in an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training at OsloMet University, Norway.

The visit held in September 2025, provided rich opportunities for professional development and international collaboration. Dr Deguara and Dr Muscat engaged in a series of training sessions and job-shadowing experiences with colleagues from the Faculty of Education and International Studies, at OsloMet University. Through these activities they gained valuable insights into innovative teaching approaches and higher education practices in an international context.

The mobility also included networking meetings with academic staff, fostering dialogue on shared research and teaching interests. Importantly, the programme enabled the UM academics to visit several kindergartens in Oslo, where they observed early years education in practice and explored how Norwegian pedagogical approaches align with, and differ from, those in Malta.

Reflecting on the experience, both academics highlighted the value of Erasmus+ mobility in broadening perspectives, strengthening professional networks, and enriching teaching practices that will directly benefit students at the University of Malta.
