University of Malta maintains CWUR Rankings for 2026, placing among top 7.6% of universities worldwide

In another favourable result for the University of Malta’s performance in international rankings, it is a pleasure to announce that the University has maintained its position in the CWUR rankings, placing  among the top 7.6% universities worldwide. UM is ranked 1,605th out of 21,291  institutions globally.

In recent years, UM has shown a steady upward trend, ranking  among the top 8.9% in 2020,  top 8.6% in 2021, top 8.3% in 2023, top 8.2% in 2024, and top 7.6% in 2025 – a strong performance  it has successfully maintained this year.  

At the regional level,  UM has  climbed 17 places in the European rankings,  improving  from 533rd  to 516th in Europe whilst retaining its position as Malta’s top-ranked higher education institution.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) publishes the largest academic rankings of global universities, with unique rankings focusing on objective indicators for education, employability, faculty and research, where equal emphasis is placed on student-related and faculty-related indicators, and 81 million outcome-based data points are used for this year’s rankings.
