Welcome to the University of Malta (UM)
The B.Sc. (Hons) in Technical Design and Technology is an undergraduate degree that focuses on design thinking and the use of disruptive technologies in industry. Through these two aspects the undergraduate degree is suitable for candidates who have a genuine interest in pursuing a career related to design and technology. The programme provides the necessary knowledge and skills for employment in sectors such as design, manufacturing and the communication of technological enterprises such as teaching and marketing.
The multidisciplinary course integrates knowledge and practice from several disciplines including: graphical communication, electrical and electronic circuit design, manufacturing techniques, engineering materials and mechanical systems. Within this degree, the learner develops foundation knowledge and hands-on skills about technological design and its historical development.
Throughout the programme, students learn how to critically look for problems and needs which are yet to be satisfied. In this way students will be in a position to identify worthwhile problems which are transformed into innovative solutions via the design process. An important aspect of the undergraduate degree is learning to design as well as exploiting technology such as augmented reality and 3D printing, in exploring and creating innovative and sustainable solutions to worthwhile challenges. The course will also provide the student to learn to assess how design decisions have consequences which manifest in society and the environment.
The course code of the undergraduate programme is UBSCHTDTFT. Further information about the programme can be accessed online.
