Welcome to the University of Malta (UM)
Why is there the George Cross on the flag of Malta, rather than the ‘Maltese cross’? Why is the Maltese language so similar to Arabic, yet full of English and Italian words in it? How come that out of the dozens of islands in the Mediterranean, only Malta and Cyprus are independent nation states? Got other questions about Malta’s history but you were afraid to ask them? Then the Diploma in Maltese History in Context is the programme for you.
History is the study of human beings in time, across time and in various places. Through this programme of study students will come to understand that History is not the regurgitation of names and dates, but an immersive experience into the beauty and contradictions of the past. It seeks meaning in events and developments, and to understand women and men in their settings in order to make sense of their lives and experiences. It is a cultural subject, besides a political and economic one, which, when studied with an open mind, leads to one’s enrichment and a better understanding of the present.
