In this “memoir” exhibition, Johann A. Briffa looks back at a recent seven-year period living and working in Surrey. In these formative years, Johann became an active member of the University of Surrey Photography Society, working on his craft and sharing his knowledge. With the society, he exhibited his work at the Lewis Elton Gallery, gave presentations on exposure in landscape photography, and led photographic walks and outings in the countryside around Guildford.
During those years, Johann went on regular walks in the English countryside, often solo, also visiting estates in the care of the National Trust and other heritage organizations. He always walked with his camera, stopping to make photos as occasions presented themselves. This exhibition features a selection of memories from such walks, mostly from the countryside in Surrey and surrounding counties in the South East of England.
Johann is a senior lecturer with the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering.
The exhibition will open on Friday, 6 October at 18:00 at the Main Library, University of Malta, with a brief introduction from the author. It will remain open to the public during Library opening hours until 30 October.
