The Islands and Small States Institute (ISSI) cordially invites students and staff at the University of Malta, as well as members of the general public, to a public lecture on 'Democracy in Small States', which will be held on Wednesday 25 September between 12:00 and 13:00 at the Islands & Small States Institute, Ġużé Cassar Pullicino Building, University of Malta, Msida MSD 2080, Malta.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof Wouter Veenendaal who is the co-author of the book Democracy in Small States: Persisting Against All Odds (2018, Oxford University Press). The book explores how politics is practiced in the smallest states where hyper-personalisation has always been a universal feature of political life.
Wouter Veenendaal is Assistant Professor in Political Science at Leiden University in The Netherlands. His research focuses on politics and democracy in small states. He has conducted research in various small states. His research has been published in renowned international academic journals.
