Title: Public Talk on Image Profligacy
Date: 2 March 2020
Time: 15:00
Venue: MKS507 - Faculty of Media & Knowledge Sciences
On 2 March 2020, the Department of Systems and Control Engineering in collaboration with the Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions will be hosting a public lecture on Imaging Profligacy by Prof Steven Simske from the Colorado State University, USA.
Abstract
Imaging, when it goes well, is much like magic. Images and videos are readily converted into context and content that is of high value to the person viewing them. But, imaging, like other sciences, can be misused. Misuse of imaging can be intentional or unintentional, hilarious or deadly serious. In this talk, we will explore some of the misapplications and misinterpretations of imaging techniques and their implications for our world. In so doing, we will understand more intuitively some of the image processing fundamentals that drive so much of our culture.
