Would you like to take part in an international event to raise awareness on the importance of protecting our local Nature?
On Saturday 22 May 2021 we will be celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity!
On the day Majjistral Park and BirdLife Malta are joining environmentalists across the globe to deliver a strong message to world leaders on the vital need to protect biodiversity.
We will be taking part with Nature2020, a live streamed collaborative art event, by creating a giant image of an endangered species - the Yelkouan Shearwater (Il-Garnija). Malta is so very important for this seabird species, and 10% of the world’s population breeds on the cliffs of Malta. Unfortunately, this species is now facing the risk of extinction.
The event will be documented live on YouTube where a tapestry of species will be revealed around the whole world at 17:00.
After the event, clothes will be donated to The Inspire Foundation charity.
This is where you can help!
You can participate by donating items of clothing or other textiles in specific colours to create the image. We need clothing in: WHITE, GREY or BLACK.
This is a great chance to get rid of some old clothes! We are also accepting towels, sheets and other textile garments in these colours.
Why not ask your friends and family too and donate a whole collection at once?
The drop off location for your clothes or textiles is Salina Nature Reserve, accessible on all days between 19:00 and 20:00. Small collection bins labelled with each colour are outside the Visitor Centre for drop offs.
By registering Birdlife Malta can also send you the links to the videos of the artworks created across the world on the day!
