The University of Malta Rowing Club, in collaboration with the University of Malta, will be hosting the 1st SEA-EU Beach Sprints Challenge on Saturday 6 November 2021 in Mellieħa Bay.
Coastal rowing is the free-spirited cousin of flatwater rowing, where both wind and waves are embraced. The Maltese archipelago, with its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches, will serve as the location for the inaugural SEA-EU beach sprint challenge.
The beach sprint is a head to head race, with a short sprint along the beach, a 250 m row around 3 marker buoys, and a 180degree turn before rowing back to the beach and sprinting to the finish line.
The UM Rowing believes that coastal rowing can serve both as a recreational activity and a means to engage with people about the importance of conserving and maintaining our seas and coastal habitats.
