Event: The evaluation of the IMF's engagement with small developing states
Date: Monday 27 June 2022
Joint Webinar by the Islands and Small States Institute and the IMF’s Independent Evaluation Office on the evaluation of the IMF's engagement with small developing states
The Islands and Small States Institute (ISSI) of the University of Malta and the Independent Evaluation Office of the International Monetary Fund (IEO) are jointly organising a webinar on the evaluation of the IMF's engagement with small developing states (SDS). The event will be held on Zoom on Friday, 27 June from 1500hrs – 1630hrs (CEST) and registration is required. It will also be live-streamed on ISSI’s Facebook Page.
The evaluation covers over a decade of IMF surveillance, lending and capacity support to SDS and touches on many policy issues, including challenges related to low growth, high debt ratios, exposure to external shocks, proneness to disasters and climate change vulnerability. It recognises progress made over the last ten years in strengthening IMF work on SDS, but concludes that there is much the IMF can do to further raise the value of its engagement with these countries.
