The Equity Office and the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at the Faculty for Social Wellbeing is inviting you to a public lecture by Prof. Ajwang Warria BSocSc (Social Work and Psychology) | BSocSc (Hons) (Clinical Social Work) | MSocSc (Clinical Social Work) and DLitt et Phil (Social Work) on Migrant Children and Statelessness.
This Public Lecture will be held on 27 March 2023 at 11:00 at GWHB2 (Gateway Building, University of Malta).
The public lecture will be followed by questions and answers, and a contribution from Ms Samar Mazloum, the Head of UNHCR in Malta. There will also be refreshments at 12:30.
Prof. Ajwang Warria (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Warria worked in the counter-human trafficking field in southern Africa and practiced as a social worker with migrant children and their families and with children living and working on the streets. As a child rights-based development advocate, she was part of working groups (coordinated South African government departments), which were instrumental in creating counter-trafficking and child protection legislation and policies. On the global front, she continues to provide her expertise as an advisory board member on a project spearheaded by the International Rescue Committee and UNICEF and as a Think Tank member with the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF). In Canada, Dr Warria is currently working in partnership with BRAVE Education and Immigrant Services Calgary on two research projects with funding support from Mitacs. Dr. Warria has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and books.
