Pier Paolo Pasolini lettore di Edward Morgan Forster
Pier Paolo Pasolini reads E.M. Forster
Prof. Giona Tuccini, UniversitĂ degli Studi di Bari "Aldo Moro"
On November 26 1972, Pier Paolo Pasolini began his collaboration with "Tempo" by offering a reading of E.M. Forster's masterpiece, Maurice. Starting from this review, which was included in Descrizioni di descrizioni, Giona Tuccini's intervention follows two main trajectories: a reflection on the concept of "consciousness," which also helps us understand the fundamental split within the protagonist of Petrolio; the expression of the trio in the analysis of Pasolini's work as a boundary phenomenon that refers to the triad of Clive-Maurice-Alec, aimed at reverberating the most acute dilemmas and the dominance of the number three in the late writings of Pasolini. The two chosen paths converge on a central component: the narrative of the self that is channelled through a third entity.
Giona Tuccini's academic background originated in Florence. After being a full professor of Italian Literature at the University of Cape Town, where he directed the Italian Studies Section in the Faculty of Humanities, he currently teaches Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the UniversitĂ degli Studi di Bari "Aldo Moro".
Apart from working on mysticism, with a particular focus on medieval religious literature, Christian Renaissance and early 20th-century spiritual culture, he has dedicated himself to the study of Pier Paolo Pasolini's and Enrico Pea's works. Giona Tuccini is a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale dell'Arcadia and a member of the scientific committee of the international journal "Studi Pasoliniani."
His bibliography includes several books, such as 'Il Vespasiano e l’Abito da Sposa', 'Fisionomie e Compiti della Poesia Nell’Opera' di Pier Paolo Pasolini (Udine 2003), 'Spiriti Cercanti', 'Mistica e Santità in Boine e Papini' (Urbino 2007), 'Voce Del Silenzio', 'Luce Sul Sentiero'. 'Di Altre Pagine Mistiche Tra Italia e Spagna' (Urbino 2008), 'Bernardino da Siena', 'Novellette, Aneddoti, Discorsi Volgari '(Genova 2009), 'Girolamo Savonarola', ' Rime' (Genova 2015), 'Nostalgia Dell’Abisso.' 'I Romanzi di Enrico Pea Degli Anni Trenta' (Roma 2020), and 'Degno Del Cielo' 'Umanesimo Plebeo e Poetica Del Sacrificio In “Accattone” Di Pasolini' (Roma 2021).
