On 26 September, Europe celebrates its day of languages. To mark this date, on Sunday 22 September, at the Valletta Campus in St. Paul’s Street, the University of Malta and the European Commission Valletta Office are organising Festalingwi, an annual language festival. As part of this event, Dr Anne-Marie Bezzina Busuttil from the Department of French of the Faculty of Arts, and Ms Anna Scicluna from the French Subject Area of the Department of Languages and Humanities of the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with Dr Marilyn Mallia, Head of the Department of French, together with their University students, will be holding French taster sessions for students of Years 5, 6 and 7 who wish to have an early experience of the French language.
Students’ guardians are welcome to attend the sessions with their children so they can see them learning through play. Teachers of French are welcome too! There will be information on how French can be useful in the children’s future. Activities will focus on the topics of le sport (13:00-14:00), la musique (14.30-15.30) and les voyages (16:00-17:00). Children can attend one or more of these sessions. The Embassy of France will kindly be offering books in simple French to a number of attendees. Freebies will also be given out, including an educational activity booklet and a school diary.
The French section of Festalingwi will be on the second floor (lift available).
