The 2016 international conference 'Europe and the Mediterranean Towards a Sustainable Built Environment' will be held in Malta between 16 and 18 March 2016. SBE Malta – iiSBE Malta Chapter, is organising the SBE 16 Malta Conference as part of the prestigious SBE 16 World Series, under the auspices of UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme), FIDIC, CIB and iiSBE (International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment).
The conference 'SBE 16 Malta: Europe and the Mediterranean Towards a Sustainable Built Environment', is being organised together with the University of Malta, the Ministry for Sustainable Development the Environment and Climate Change and the Building Industry Consultative Council (BICC) Malta.
The conference addresses the following main fields: resource conservation, materials and structures, smart buildings, energy efficiency and building retrofit, regeneration of existing building and cultural heritage, spatial planning and urban design, and renewable energy sources. Besides the international conference, the event will include an exhibition on Green Building Materials and Technology, a Workshop on Regeneration of Existing Buildings and Cultural Heritage, organised in collaboration with the Kamra Tal-Periti (Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers) and other eNGPs, as well as a networking event organised with Malta Enterprise and MCST through EEN, and Specific International Horizon 2020 Project Meetings.
Furthermore, more than 100 academic papers were submitted for double blind peer review. The papers presented at the conference during the three days will be published in a book of proceedings. High profile international academics, professionals and industrial partners will participate in the various events including the Conference, the Exhibition and the Workshop.
