Day 1: Psychology and Psychotherapy in context
Friday 22 April from 09:00 to 18:00
Day 2: Psycho-oncology: The role of family dynamics in the treatment of cancerSaturday 23 April from 09:00 to 13:00
Friday 22 April from 09:00 to 18:00
The seminar will focus on the relationship between a specific geographical region and the individuals who inhabit it. The aim of this seminar will be to analyse human behaviour in the light of theories of ethnoanthropology, analytical anthropology and territorial psychology. The predisposing psychological factors in populations with a permanent community identity, typical of the island and peninsular regions in the Mediterranean, will be considered during the debate. Differences and similarities between socio-cultural contexts will be traced in order to emphasise the uniqueness of behaviour in diverse cultural settings. Participants will be invited to present their own clinical cases. Psychological processes pertaining to the cases discussed will be analysed and formulated in the broader context of intercultural dynamics, particularly those pertaining to the Mediterranean region.
Day 2: Psycho-oncology: The role of family dynamics in the treatment of cancer
The aim of this seminar is to highlight aetiological theories on psycho-oncology applied to health settings and to discuss the various psychotherapeutic implications. Cancer research has focused on the implementation of supportive psychological interventions as part of cancer treatment models. These interventions address patients’ needs throughout different stages of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Research in the field has demonstrated the importance of extending interventions to the family of the patient, the staff and the health system. The role of emotional processes within the family and the health system in cancer epidemiology will be highlighted. Participants will be invited to discuss their own clinical cases in the light of the above-mentioned themes.
