Evenings on Campus was one of the very first festivals in Malta which started to give space to different forms of contemporary culture through its representations of visual and performing arts. Evenings on Campus has become a regular and appreciated addition to Malta’s summer cultural life. Now in its 25th edition, this year, Evenings on Campus will be held from Sunday 23 July to Friday 11 August.
Science of Conservation will be held on 30 July at 20:00 in Atriju Vassalli (Main Quadrangle), University of Malta Msida Campus.
Time, and change, wait for no-one. Nothing is eternal. What about our magnificent cathedrals, monumental buildings, great works of art, historic objects and archaeological sites? They all alter, break down, discolour, get dirty, lose their beauty, function and also their grandeur.
Malta Café Scientifique will be exploring the Science of conservation with a panel of experts in an event as part of the Evenings on Campus - University of Malta festival.
This is where the conservation professional - the cultural heritage 'doctor' and their team step in. Just like the medical profession working with human beings, professional conservators work on objects, paintings and buildings. How is the problem diagnosed and possibly treated, if need be?
All within professional guidelines, ethical considerations, and always working as a team - the conservators work with the conservation scientists, be it chemists, physicists, biologists or geologists, the historians and art historians, the archaeologists, architects and engineers.
Come join us at Malta Café Scientifique’s event of Science of Conservation at 20:00 on 30 July at the University of Malta Quadrangle in Msida where our panel of professionals, will discuss how this interdisciplinary team is set up, the science behind conservation and its many misconceptions.
