The University of Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), the Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland) and the Leeds Beckett University (United Kingdom) are co-organising
The International Conference on Niche Market Formation for Faith-Based Tourism: Issues and Policies in Faith-based Tourism Travel Business
On 20 October 2017 at the Seashells Resort, Suncrest Hotel in Qawra.
This conference is of national importance and will provide a platform for the creation of a niche market of Faith-Based Tourism. This conference is of great interest for researchers, practitioners and students interested in culture and cultural heritage, tourism, religion, humanities and other related areas, people working in the cultural sector and museums, tourism entrepreneurs and the general public, and will see a great variety of topics related to faith-based tourism and pilgrimage.
There are many reasons why this conference is being held. Worldwide, the faith-based tourism market is experiencing substantial growth and pilgrimage centres of different religions have been reporting increasing numbers of pilgrims. However, this global growth of faith-based tourism has hardly had an effect on neither the niche-forming of inbound faith-based tourism nor did it manage to attract its share of pilgrimage tourists to the Maltese archipelago. This conference will try to give some answers and ideas to spark off the process of a structured and sustainable independent niche of faith-based tourism.
In order to cover for the costs of the refreshments (coffee/tea breaks) a participation fee of EUR 10.00 will apply to students and EUR 15.00 to non-students.
