The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (DIME) at the University of Malta, in collaboration with the Malta Branch of the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) UK, is organising a lecture on 'Research in Human-Centred Design: Products, Processes and People'. The lecture will be delivered by Dr Andrew Wodehouse from the Department of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management at the University of Strathclyde,UK.
The event will take place on Wednesday 9 May 2018 at 12:30 in the VC102, IT Services Building, at the University of Malta.
Human-Centred Design (HCD) aims to place the end users and their experience of a product, system, or service at the centre of design practice, thereby allowing their involvement and contribution at each stage of the development process. This talk will explore the topic of HCD in relation to engineering design and development. Three levels of interchange – products, processes and people – are used as a framework addressing the range of human experience in relation to artefacts and technological development. Illustrated through a range of research projects and experiences, including prosthetic devices, patents, and musical instruments, lessons from each are drawn to contribute towards engineering design principles and practices that are physically, emotionally, and cognitively grounded.
If you are interested, send an email to Dr Ing. Philip Farrugia by not later than Monday 7 May, to book a place. Due to limited places, booking is taken on a first come, first served basis.
