The Faculty for Social Wellbeing Research, Publications and Scholarship Committee is organising a brown-bag seminar entitled 'Migrant Women and Gender Based Violence'.
The seminar will be presented by Dr Sandra Scicluna, Department of Criminology on Wednesday 23 January from 12:30 to 14:00 in Room 420, Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy (FEMA 420), University of Malta Msida Campus.
This research is the result of a European finances project on gender-based violence. It deals with the phenomenon of migrant women, victims of or potential victims of, gender-based violence both in their home country, during their travel and in the host countries. The testimonials of women that arrived in France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Spain and the UK show various forms of violence that do not necessarily stop once they reach Europe. The violence result from a mixture of cultural acceptance, trafficking of people and in some cases, an institutional form of violence, in the host countries.
