Accordingly, Ms Vidal will share some lessons that one can learn from a better coordination to analyse the situation of women and take action to claim their rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Finally, she will propose some insights about the challenges at stake for producing positive changes in the field of gender equality in the Mediterranean area.
Emilie Vidal, Coordinator of the IEMed’s Gender Equality Programme since 2014. IEMed hosts the Secretariat of the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM), which aims to unite different kinds of actors involved in promoting gender equality (research entities, associations, women's rights ministerial departments, local and regional Authorities, media, enterprises and syndicates) in order to advance women’s rights and improve women’s conditions. She holds a B.A. in Tourism and an M.A. in Mediterranean Relations, Communication and Development in the Mediterranean.
She has worked for several years in the field of Cultural policies and Development and has extensive experience in International Cooperation in the MENA region, West Africa and Latin America. She coordinated numerous studies and publications in the areas of human development and the defence of women's rights, such as 'Practices from the field: Advocating for women in the Euro-Mediterranean region' and 'Sexual and Reproductive Health and Culture in Mali: Perceptions and opinions of young people in the informal sector. In 2012, she was selected to participate in the Exchange programme between cultural managers in the Arab region "Tandem / Shaml" and produced the documentary 'Balady: an overview of our society from a cultural and gender point of view' which has received awards and has been broadcast in several film festivals in Spain.
