The Faculty of Theology will be hosting a research seminar entitled ‘Sports and recreation in the Salesian pedagogy’
Speaker: Leanne D'Amato
Venue: University of Malta, Theology Board Room (317)
Date: Tuesday 14 May
Time: from 16:00 to 17:00
Chair: Rev. Dr John Berry
The positive attributes of sports and recreation and their key role in making faithful disciples was very much endorsed by Don Bosco. In the Salesian tradition, the playground is an invitational space for having fun, making new friends as well as building relationships; the place in which the preventive system can be mostly experienced and practiced. Through sports and leisure activities at the oratories, the Salesians constantly aim to enhance the personal, spiritual journey of youngsters whilst navigating through the turbulent adolescent years.
This seminar will discuss how the Maltese Salesians are currently following into the footsteps of their founder. It will explore the dynamics of seeking innovative ways of enabling youths to have authentic encounters with the Divine and thus come across God’s endearing love towards them.
Leanne D'Amato is a wife and a mother who is currently working in Inclusive Education. In 2010, she graduated with a B.A. (Hons.) in Italian, and in 2018 she completed the course leading to an M.A. in Youth Ministry. The title of her M.A. thesis is 'Making disciples on the field: Sports and Recreation as tools for Salesian Youth Ministry.'
Tea and Coffee will be served prior to the Seminar.
