Congratulations to JC students Leandros Catania and Gillian Vella for their achievement in the International Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Competition 2020.
The finalists of the 2020 YRE International Competition were recently assessed by an international jury and the awarded entries chosen. First-year College students Leandros Catania and Gillian Vella placed third in the Litter Less Campaign Category – Article 15-18 years in the competition with their article Use of water fountains to reduce plastic waste. Their article was also featured locally on timesofmalta.com and the YRE Malta website.
Over 275,000 students worldwide participated in the YRE programme this year and they produced over 16,000 pieces of environmental journalism for national YRE competitions. The entries awarded this year, showcase these students’ journalistic talent as well as a deep understanding of the complex environmental issues affecting local communities.
YRE is an international award-winning programme that gives young people aged 11-25 a platform to research environmental issues and promote solutions through investigative reporting, photography, and video journalism.
