Prof. Ernest Cachia, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the University of Malta (UM) recently visited the National Nuclear Research University MEPhI in Russia. During his visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between UM and MEPhI: this MoU had been signed by the UM Rector, Prof. Alfred Vella and was presented to MEPhI by Prof. Cachia.
The catalyst for the interaction of these two academically educational institutions was the company Parallels, which provides support to academic programmes in both universities.
During his visit in Russia, Prof. Cachia held meetings with MEPhI management representatives, including Sergei Misyurin, Director of the Institute of Cognitive Cybernetic Systems, with which the Faculty of ICT intends to establish cooperation. The meeting was held through the mediation of Parallels, a Gold Partner of the Faculty of ICT. Prof. Ernest Cachia also toured the nanoelectronics labs of the Informatics and Cyber Security Department where the whole manufacturing process of cutting-edge semiconductor elements, from inception to production, is catered for.
While in Moscow, Prof. Cachia also delivered lectures to students in MEPhI and in HSE on Big Data and the Internet of Things which were very positively received.
The cooperation between UM and MEPhI opens up excellent mutually beneficial opportunities for the exchange of experience.
